Reporter’s Notebook: Dianna’s Community Weavers

For our profiles my three people were Aldo Vasquez (YOUmedia), Erin Liljegren(Bridge Gallery), and Hector Perez (Rocket Productions). I decided to choose people related to my desired beat, the arts. So I looked through people who did some different form of art, such as painting, video, writing etc.

Aldo Vasquez works in YOUmedia (as said above) , which provides activities for middle school kids throughout the week at the Chicago Public Library on 1805 S. Loomis St. The program helps kids to be connected with books and media and provides mentors for the workshops. The program provides a different workshop everyday, for instance graphic design. Students are given the necessary equipment for each day. Aldo can be seen helping out at the library setting up equipment for the day’s agenda. He is always happy to help kids or just have a friendly chat.

My second person to profile was Erin Liljegren. She is one of the many unique artists at the Bridge Gallery of Contemporary Art and Adornments. Her art often shows a connection with balance of people, buildings, and objects. Erin also adds her own experience of living in the city into her works. Her works are sometimes viewed as “social portraits of the human-built landscape”, according to their website (http://www.gallerybridge.com/Artist_Bridge_Gallery/page32/page32.html). Erin is very Eco-friendly and uses recycled packaging for her art.

My final person who I choose to profile was Hector Perez. Hector founded, and is president of, Rocket productions. Hector is a three time Chicago Emmy winner. He has had thirty years of experience in television production. Rocket Productions produces a wide variety of things from commercials to PSA’s.
